My grand-mother once told me a woman should always have sage around her home. I wasn't sure what she meant. Then one of my closest friend who's slightly (I'm being a good friend) older than me went through menopause and sage seemed to be her magical natural remedy against hot flashes at night. A little while later a friend introduced me to a sage smudge stick that she would burn and wave around her body to cleanse her space and aura from negative energy. At that point you may be thinking that I am surrounded with what's left of the hippies in our world. Not totally wrong. But all three women who have talked me into the benefits of sage are women that I look up at with great respect and that have always showed me better ways to life. So I decided to find out a bit more about it. Sage comes from the Latin word Salvare and means to Heal. I think that's a pretty good start. I am not going to go through the history of the plant but it has been used from all times, in all kind of civilizations, tribes, cultures, including the Native Americans. If you start reading about sage, you will soon realize that the one thing that comes back over and over is its energy healing property. I don't know if property is the right word to use here as it's more of a belief than an actual scientific fact. But if you believe something is good for you then I believe it's a good starting point. And since I am the kind of person who absorbs everyone's energy like a sponge, good and bad, anything that may help me take the negative away is welcome into my world. I wasn't sure where I could find one of those smudge stick until I walked into my local grocery store and there they were, waving their leaves at me! Inexpensive, I'm hooked. So don't worry if you find me dancing around a smoky room, I am just protecting my Happy-self.
