Ride with pride

Today I got to spend some time at the beach, watching the first day of the Aloha Classic contest here on Maui. It's a windsurf event, a legendary one. The conditions were pumping with pretty massive waves and strong wind. I could watch some of my friends smoke the waves (=when my french takes over my english) while I was building castles with my boy on the beach. It fell too long since I last caught a few good waves windsurfing though I did catch a few waves on my longboard last week, celebrating my 5 month pregnant belly.
I was feeling like watching some feminine action tonight, photos or videos, whatever may help my night turn into a sweet elegant ride.

Ride with style

I'm too old to be a young ripper, my goal is to become an old ripping longboarding lady. I want to be 60 one day (how lucky would that be) and kiss my longboard's nose (while riding a wave, duh) without leaving a couple teeth behind. All the inspiration I need is right here in this video. Those ladies rock!

Weird Al from Andy Davis on Vimeo.

Talking about his Art, Southern California surfer & artist Andy Davis says :"It makes people smile, or laugh, but mostly I hope it just makes them feel good. Surfing and the culture of cool around it can get too serious sometimes. That's the last place we need that kind of attitude. It's our sanctuary". This alone makes me like the guy. I love simple line drawings in general, I love grown ups who cultivate their childish mind. Some drawings might even seem naive but it brings a colorful feel of happiness to me when I look at his Art. It makes me want to grab my longboard and go look for that missing tooth, and eventually catch a wave or two.

Shit happen

I know you'll look at the post tittle, then you'll look at the first photo and think What does she mean shit happen?
So yesterday after dropping Manech to daycare I had set myself to go enjoy an hour of happy long boarding. It had been quite a while since I last grabbed my board and I was excited about the idea of jumping in the ocean before getting to work. So excited I snapped a picture of my vibrant red toes in communion with my board (so much creativity I know). And I was SO happy! There were some nice sets of waves coming in and I was feeling confident enough to take off on some of the bigger ones. And it all went pretty well. But when I took the picture before dipping myself in the water, I had not anticipated AT ALL the picture I would take once I'd got off the water. I wasn't actually thinking I'd take any other photo that day.
Well, shit do happen and they always seem to happen all at once! The week had already been pretty damn challenging with a lot of emotions I had to deal with. That's also why I had decided to go out surfing, so that I could shake it all off . And it fell right as I put on my bikini. I always tend to listen to my inner voice whenever I want to go surfing or windsurfing. I look at the ocean, I look at the waves and I listen to that little voice. And sometimes it says NO and I go and I break a mast. So I do pay attention to what it says now. And yesterday it seemed to be saying YES! So I went, right?
Here's the photo I had not anticipated:

Yep. That is half a front (big front) tooth missing. The picture doesn't give justice to the ugliness of it really. There's an other chip on the other front tooth, the side one is cracked and no one can tell whether it will hold on or not and there seems to be a bit of a bone fracture. YAY-FEAR FREE! Go girl! So instead of enjoying a nice day surfing and working on a creative project of mine I got to spend the day looking for a dentist and talking to prison's-door-like secretaries who did not seem to give a damn of my poor self being in pain.
Okay enough complaining. Let's try and look at the bright side because remember, black tends to cover white but there is always positiveness hiding into the darkness. Is this poetic at all? That could be a bright side right here! Ha! When I got home and looked at me in the mirror well I couldn't help but notice how my smile had changed. I looked BAD ASS! YAY! (note to myself: do carry your boxing mouth guard when you go surfing). Seriously other than that, the first thing I told myself was, well your smile isn't quite as gorgeous as it used to be (the gorgeous goes to my ego that needs some fuel right now), but hey! you're still you! You may have half (a good half) a front tooth missing but YOU haven't changed. Right? I mean does appearance means so much that I will spend the rest of the day crying over a tooth? Hell no! I am who I am whether I have a mouth full of teeth or not. I am still my kind-funny-self with all of my  good qualities AND not so good ones. Life lesson right here. Bang.
I will eventually (hopefully) get this all fixed up soon. It will, no doubt, cost some money (America!!) and that's what really sucks but I was able to pick up my child and spend the rest of the day laughing and playing around the yard with him. What else really matters!
BE HAPPY. With or without the perfect smile (never had the perfect one anyway)!

Hard to beat. A Sunday afternoon spent feet in the sand, faces in the sun. Friends jamming on the beach. Kids making new friends for a moment or for life. This is Hawaii. Embracing the beauty the islands have to offer. As a kid I would not (NOT!) have guessed life would turn out to be so beautiful (the odds weren't quite on my side then). Hawaii sounded like a fairy place, the kind you'd hear about in fairy tales. But I woke up one day to find out...it is real! Take your widest dream and do not ever let go of it. Cherish it and it might eventually become a reality. Don't forget we are amongst the luckiest people, having freedom of life, freedom to make our own choices.
Meanwhile, it is soooo good to hang with such cool friends, being a parent but not only, dancing barefoot in the sand for a second holding your baby tight to your heart as the sun sets behind the mountains. LIVE HARD - DREAM HARDER!

Wondering about the pretty pretty jewelry pieces & head band? It is all hand made here on Maui, in a little Atelier tucked away in the Jungle. The happy news is that they ship worldwide. When Hawaii meets Paris. Ruebelle Designs.

There is something about women riding boards. It goes way beyond a style. An effortless Grace. When the body,
the board and the soul all come together as one. I have to admit I am quite obsessed with it. There will be more
of it here.
