This photo sums up this past week. Cloudy, rainy, cloudy, rainy on repeat. Which is fine when you live in Hawaii. We've had a beautiful winter so far. With quite a few storms but they would last a couple of days and the sun would be right back. We were joking with friends saying wait until March kicks in and the rain will come. Sure enough. It seems to me like it has been the same scenario around here for years. Our winter really is March. So watch out if you plan a trip to Hawaii..It's even cold! There was a thin layer of snow a few days ago on top of the Haleakala volcano and truly, I have been wearing socks all the way to bed at night, waking up to 55°F (13°celsius)...wooop welcome sexiness!
I do love the rain here though. Waterfalls and streams come back to life, the nature brightens all in a sudden. If you look at this photograph above. I shot it this morning. It was so cloudy, the rain was sprinkling and yet the colors came out so bright with great natural contrasts. I did not have to pump the colors up with a photo editor. Straight out of the camera.
You wake up in the morning, look out the window and think to yourself (or to the world) oh no, it's Sunday and it's all grey. But if you look closely, if you let your eye wander around, you realize how colorful everything is, all the shades of green, the trees, the grass, the palms. And the smells! I have always loved the smell of wet dirt. Rain makes everything so fertile, we should only be thankful for it. And it's taxes seasons anyway. Might as well fill them up while it's raining outside.
